Guiding Principles and Testing Questions

We at the Roastery run our potential actions through a set of questions, based on certain criteria for sustainability and success, which are synonymous. This list of questions, based on the Testing Guidelines in Holistic Management, serves as a guide, followed by monitoring to see that we are in fact not pursuing the horizon.

  1. If we are pursue this venture, is it in reaction to something, and if so are we addressing the root cause?
  2. Will this enhance or degrade the overall social, economic and natural resources that we need as a business, now and in the future?
  3. Are we addressing the weak link that currently exists in the Roastery, either Resource Conversion, Product Conversion, or Marketing
  4. What is the marginal reaction as compared to other activities?
  5. How does the gross profit stand up to other enterprises?
  6. What is the source and use of the energy to be used and is this the most appropriate source/use?
  7. What is the source and use of the money to be used and is this the most appropriate source/use?
  8. Will this so offend others in our community that we create a logjam to our business and community activities?
  9. How do we feel about the potential, now that we have looked at all these questions?
