Coffees at the Roastery
Posted December 1, 2008:
Look for some new blends and coffees. I will put these online in the next day. We have two very popular blends locally, one called the Numbers Blend and one Cosmic Love Blend. Both are dark and rich. The Cosmic Love Blend uses spicy Indonesian coffees as a base. The Numbers uses heavy bodied earthy Indonesian coffees. We also have a special Blue Java for the holidays, in a holiday label. Again, these will be available in the next day. Thanks.

Fortune magazine has an interesting blurb about Stabuck's 'new plan'. It's interesting to see how the coffee industry will be affected by changing buying trends and economic woes.

US News and World Report has an interesting article, 4$ Gas Prices are Killing the $2 Cup of Starbuck's Coffee. The article brings up the relationship with gasoline and a cup of joe. There's nothing particularly earth-shattering contained therein. Still, it's curious to watch on this end as demand for coffee beans shifts in the micro-marketplace, as tourism and impulse shopping try to make their way through soaring prices.

New Crop of Nicaraguan
Posted May 25, 2008:
Our new crop of Fair Trade Organic Nicaraguan is coming in, part of a crop that is up 43% over last year. We anticitpate roasting it the first week of June. Interestingly, it is taking a bit longer to arrive given trucker strikes influenced by rising fuel costs. But, it'll arrive. After cupping the Segovia, Sabor de Segovia and the 5 de Junio, we chose the same we have been using, the 5 de Junio. It cups great and performs better than the others in our blends. Ask us about it.

As many of you know, Joel and Laurie Benson took the reins at the Buena Vista Roastery - where we craft Bongo's coffees. 'Bongo' Bill Mehaffey can get out of the office and spend his time helping to optimize roasts, fine tune equipment, train staff on the espresso machine, and generally ensure that each bean lives up to the quality that you have come to expect in a cup of Bongo Billy's Coffees.
In 2008, we have changed the face of the Bongo Billy's Coffees web site, created the Coffees for a Cause Program and a new blog, and added many initiatives for both Bongo Billy's Coffees and the Buena Vista Roastery, Some of our initiatives focus in particular on the environment and accentuate our dedication to a thriving ecological community.

The SCAA Conference has come and gone. We connected with many equipment vendors and will soon be incorporating additional technology into our portfolio, as well as wholesale offerings. We look forward to 2009 in Atlanta.
